Well, if you’re going to be a tourist, you might as well be flamboyant about it. Check out the tie-dye and bright red beach hat.

Some of the west coast educators flew in with enough time to sight-see today. We are here for our much anticipated training at National Geographic Headquarters. Several of us walked a nine mile loop to see the White House, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. Before I leave the Nation’s Capital I hope to visit the Vietnam Memorial as well as the Natural History Museum.

Washington Monument

Washington Monument Fun Fact: George Washington stopped the project to build monument as he did not want to use public funds.

Lincoln Memorial

View out of the Lincoln Memorial

Lincoln Memorial Fun Fact: On the back of the American Penny is an image of the Lincoln Memorial, including a teeny-tiny Abraham Lincoln. Either get out your magnifying glass or try the water drop trick. Drop water droplets onto the penny until the surface tension is just about to burst. This will create a magnifying effect which will allow you to see the miniature statue of the 16th president of the United States.

Jefferson Memorial

Litter in the Tidal Basin

Jefferson Memorial Fun Fact: The statue of Jefferson is 5 tons which is about the same as an average adult elephant.

Students… can you spot the water pollution?
